Journey of Faith & Leadership

Educational Background & Ordination

His Eminence completed his High School education from BH High School Mavelikkara, laying the foundation for a remarkable academic journey. He pursued higher education with unwavering dedication, obtaining his BA Degree from Bishop More College, followed by an MA from the prestigious Banares Hindu University, and BD from Calcutta Bishops College.

Ordination Journey: He was ordained as Semmas on May 29, 1976, and as Kaseessa on June 9, 1976, marking the beginning of his sacred ministry.

Throughout his early ministry, he served with distinction as vicar of multiple parishes including Rajara, Bilaspur, Allahabad, Renuket, Singroli, Boston, and Mumbai Santacruz Parishes. His academic pursuit continued as he earned his MTh Degree from Princeton Theological Seminary and ultimately received his Doctorate from Banaras Hindu University, cementing his position as both a spiritual leader and accomplished scholar.

Academic Achievements & Research

The university's decision to award the Doctorate was particularly significant, as it was based on groundbreaking research exploring the place of grace in Vaishnava Philosophy and Christian Theology. This scholarly work represented a fundamental search for ideological common ground, essential for fostering meaningful interfaith dialogue.

Research Focus: His pioneering work in comparative theology has opened new pathways for understanding between Christian and Hindu philosophical traditions, contributing significantly to interfaith dialogue in India.

This research demonstrates his unique ability to bridge theological perspectives, making complex spiritual concepts accessible while maintaining scholarly rigor. His work continues to influence theological discourse and interfaith relations across India and beyond.

Leadership & Global Service

His Eminence has been honored with significant leadership positions at both national and international levels. He was elected as a member of the World Council of Churches (WCC) Central Committee for a second term, demonstrating the global recognition of his spiritual leadership and theological insights.

Key Leadership Positions:
  • Member of WCC Policy Reference Committee
  • WCC Reference Committee on Justice and Peace

His leadership style is characterized by a special blend of spiritual depth, administrative excellence, and compassionate service. He fulfills his responsibilities with dedication, bringing innovative approaches to traditional institutions while maintaining their core values and mission.

Ministry Vision & Commitment

Thirumeni embodies a unique ministry philosophy that seamlessly combines deep spirituality with active social service. His approach recognizes that true spiritual leadership must address both the soul and the material needs of God's people, particularly those living in poverty and marginalization.

Ministry Philosophy: "Spirituality and social service are not separate paths but two aspects of the same calling - to serve God by serving His people, especially the poor and marginalized."

He is passionately committed to awakening the conscience of the Church, encouraging members to engage in meaningful ministry that reaches the millions of utterly poor people across India. His vision extends beyond traditional church boundaries, seeking to create lasting impact through holistic development initiatives that address spiritual, educational, and social needs.

Through his leadership, he continues to inspire a new generation of believers to embrace a faith that is both deeply spiritual and actively engaged in addressing the challenges facing contemporary Indian society.
