— Anchored in Tradition, Unified in Faith
St John's Mar Thoma Parish
St. John's Mar Thoma Parish is a leading congregation of the Malankara Mar Thoma Syrian Church, serving as a foundation for the Mar Thoma community across the United Kingdom and Europe.
📜 Our Heritage
The Mar Thoma Church traces its beginnings to 52 AD, when Apostle St. Thomas arrived on India's Malabar Coast and established seven churches in places such as Malankara, Chavakad (Palur), Paravoor, Gokamangalam, Kollam, Niranam, and Nilakal. These early Christians, known as St. Thomas Christians, began a lively tradition that continues today. As heirs to this ancient faith, we preserve and celebrate a vibrant heritage.
The Mar Thoma Church in the UK
Our journey in the UK started in the 1930s. Rapid growth occurred during the 1970s, with newcomers from Malaysia, Singapore, East Africa, and India adding their cultures to our worship. In April, our group was officially recognised as a congregation, and by October, elevated to parish status - a major milestone for the church in Britain.
